I hold a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado State University and have completed additional training in specific areas of health psychology, grief, trauma, career development, and nature-based therapy.
My approach to therapy is from a humanistic lens and focuses on the whole person, beyond labels, symptoms or diagnosis. My style is collaborative and customized to your individual goals and needs. I often try to include tools that may be immediately helpful as well as deep inquiry that may involve looking at past and current forces at play, patterns, unacknowledged parts of the story, stuck points, blind spots, etc. My clients have described me as compassionate, curious, hopeful and human. Working with me, you can expect these elements to be present, and occasionally, even laughter- because therapy, healing, and alignment can actually be a playful, freeing experience.
I hold a Bachelors degree in Journalism and believe in the power of the right question. Before becoming a therapist, I worked professionally in research, media and storytelling. I think stories are incredibly powerful forces in our lives, and are often the bridges that connect us to each other. That said, I am often open to sharing pieces of my own story if asked - marriage, midlife, career evolutions, the outdoors, grief, etc.
I truly love this work and supporting people along their unique path. Away from the office, I enjoy trail running, skiing, mountaineering, backpacking. as well as yoga, photography, music, travel, and time with my family, friends and cat.
Research shows that the relationship between a therapist and client is the most important factor in the success of therapy. This is why I really like to have a short consultation call before we decide to work together. If we decide we’re not a good fit on that call, maybe I can even point you in a direction of someone who might be. :) I look forward to connecting with you. -Ash
